Game Objective

Challenge your feline to stalk, hunt, and consume, all hidden treats in the mountain's valley!

Game Players

1 Brave Whiskers Socializer & 1 Green or Orange Jalapeno Feline (Optional: Additional, Bonded Felines)

Materials / Components / Setup

  1. Collect 2 disposable plates, disposable chopsticks, empty tissue box, packing paper, scissors or hole punch, and 10-20 temptations treats.

  2. Stuff the empty tissue box (with any plastic removed) with packing paper.

  3. Punch a hole in the center of both the large and small plates. The holes should be slightly smaller than the thickness (diameter) of the chopstick.

  4. Stack the plates together and force the chopstick through the holes. The goal is to stabilize the two items together, leaving a small space between each.

  5. Insert the chopstick into the tissue box, stabilized by the packing material. The tissue box is the base of the toy.

  6. Put treats on the bottom plate, with the top plate covering them.

How to Play / Rules

Present the feline player(s) with the peak-a-boo challenge! Allow player(s) to explore it, and encourage treat hunting!

Scoring / Winning the Game

Each retrieved treat is 1 point. To win, the feline should hunt all treats successfully! Be sure to record the score and include the total points possible in your notes!

Special Situations / Safety / Fair Play Guidelines

  • Stop playing immediately if the peak-a-boo becomes damaged and replace damaged components for toy reintroduction.
  • Monitor group interactions to ensure all cats have access.
  • Do not leave the peak-a-boo unattended!
  • Monitor for resource guarding or bullying in multi-feline game sessions.

Variations / Levels

  • Newbies: make the gap larger between the layers of the peak-a-boo.
  • Advanced Felines: make the gap smaller between the layers of the peak-a-boo. You can also insert obstacles between the layers, such as paper crinkle balls.
  • If additional encouragement is needed, sprinkle catnip between the layers to entice play!

Safety Reminder

All enrichment activities should be supervised by shelter staff. Remove any damaged components immediately and discontinue use if a cat attempts to ingest any portion of the enrichment item. Select materials appropriate for the individual cat's age, health status and behavioral history.
