Game Objective

Challenge your feline to rescue the trapped treats from the sock prison!

Game Players

1 Brave Whiskers Socializer & 1 Green or Orange Jalapeno Feline

Materials / Components / Setup

  1. Collect 1 clean sock, 10-20 temptations treats, and catnip (optional).

  2. Fill the sock with the treats and catnip.

  3. Loosely knot the open end of the sock.

  4. Be sure the treats can escape the knot in the sock!

How to Play / Rules

  1. Open the kennel door and place the sock in the center of the kennel, away from the litterbox.
  2. Close the door and allow the feline to investigate the game.

  3. Encourage the cat to bat, bite, toss, wrestle, and paw the sock. Demonstrate interaction if necessary.

  4. Record the number of treats liberated and how the feline interacted with the game.

Scoring / Winning the Game

Each retrieved treat is 1 point. To win, the feline should hunt all treats successfully! Be sure to record the score and include the total points possible in your notes!

Special Situations / Safety / Fair Play Guidelines

  • Supervise all feline players, especially those that are known to ingest foreign objects.
  • Inspect the sock for loose threads prior to use. Do not use with a damaged sock.
  • Do not over-tighten the sock! The feline will get frustrated and hate the game!

Variations / Levels

  • Newbies: leave the sock partially open at the knot.
  • Advanced Felines: put the sock into a paper bag or small box to challenge the player to hunt for the sock.

Safety Reminder

All enrichment activities should be supervised by shelter staff. Remove any damaged components immediately and discontinue use if a cat attempts to ingest any portion of the enrichment item. Select materials appropriate for the individual cat's age, health status and behavioral history.
