Game Objective
Challenge your feline to bounce and shake their spiral game piece to destroy it!
Game Players
1 Brave Whiskers Socializer & 1 Green or Orange Jalapeno Feline
Materials / Components / Setup
- Collect scissors, 1 cardboard paper towel roll, and catnip.

- Starting at one end of the cardboard paper towel roll, begin to cut down the body of the roll at a 45 degree angle. Your goal is to change 1/3rd of the roll into a slinky-type sprial.


- Be sure to trim off any loose cardboard edges so your feline player does not attempt to eat them!

- At the other end of the cardboard paper towel roll, cut vertical slits 1/3rd of the way down the body of the roll.


- Cover the game piece in catnip.

- Optionally, change the middle of the game piece into a treats compartment! Squeeze and twist at the base of the fringe end.


- Fill the toy with catnip and treats.


- Optionally, close the game at the base of the spiral end to challenge the feline player to hunt the treats!


- Place the game into the kennel for the feline player to hunt and destroy! This game also works for cats outside of the kennel...


How to Play / Rules
- Open the kennel door and place the tootsie roll in the center of the kennel, away from the litterbox.
- Close the door and allow the feline to investigate the game.
- Encourage the cat to bat, bite, toss, wrestle, and paw the game. Demonstrate interaction if necessary.
- Record how the feline interacted with the game.




Scoring / Winning the Game
Each minute of play is 1 point. To win, the feline should interact with the toy in some way! Be sure to record the score and include the total points possible in your notes!
Special Situations / Safety / Fair Play Guidelines
- Always ensure that the feline is secured when opening and working in the kennel.
- Ensure there are no loose cardboard pieces the cat can ingest.
- Do not leave the feline player unattended with this game! The goal is to interact with the player, and you must ensure the feline does not inject the toy to complete the natural hunt behavior!
Variations / Levels
This game can be customized. You can create a tootsie roll gamepiece in the middle section of the cardboard paper towel roll. Twist the roll closed at the base of the spiral, fill with favorite treats, and close the other end, ensuring the the feline can successfully hunt all treats included!
Safety Reminder
All enrichment activities should be supervised by shelter staff. Remove any damaged components immediately and discontinue use if a cat attempts to ingest any portion of the enrichment item. Select materials appropriate for the individual cat's age, health status and behavioral history.
